Longest Run Ever

"Even if you fall flat on your face at least you are moving forward."
~Sue Luke

Well, Sunday I finished my last long run in my marathon training. I ran about 14 1/2 miles in around 3 1/2 hours. I ended up making a few stops along the way at Kwik Trip to use the bathroom on the way out and on my way back to by some bug spray. I was being eaten alive by mosquitos. This run did not go quite like I had planned it. I got started much later than I wanted which led to me having to find my way along a 2-lane highway in the dark. That was not very smart. There was also much more traffic than I had anticipated which caused me to have to jump on and off the road repeatedly. For those of you who have had to do this you know how tiring that can be. About 2 miles from my car I stepped in a hole and turned my ankle and proceeded to limp the rest of the way. I am still limping today, but I think it's only a minor sprain. I am taking ibuprofen and I am icing 15 minutes 15 off. I learned something about my own mental toughness. I found that I could push my body much farther than it wants me to go. I am very proud of what I was able to accomplish. I know I will be cutting it very close on race day, but I know I have people behind me and that counts for a lot.

That's an amazing distance! Right now I couldn't even go that far on a bike : )

That sucks about the ankle. Hope it responds to RICE. Good work completing the distance.

Hope your ankle feels better. I think you will definitely cross that finish line, just probably not as quickly as you want.
